Has Your Game Gone to Pieces Recently ?

If you are a Junior players between 11 and 16 years of age, you might notice that a some point your game seems to suddenly change for no reason at all. You feel that you are not doing so well and that you game is fulling apart. One sure sign is that you keep hitting the ball off the table.

So why is this happening? Are you really loosing it? Well you are not loosing it and has to what's happening, that's simple. You are growing!!! The trouble is you don't always realise what is happening but understanding what's going on will help you. After all you will get through it.

When you start to grow, and this tends to happen in fast spurts, you will start to feel tired as all your energy is being used by your body to grow. You may start to eat more as well! During these periods, and you will go through this more than once if you are a teenager, your relationship to the table changes. By that I mean that can see over the table more, reach further and probably be able to hit the ball more powerfully than before.

So what can you do about it. Well not a lot whilst you are growing. You simply cant stop yourself growing and I am sure you wouldn't want to anyway. What you can do is once a growing spurt has ended , is to slightly change your stroke. We wont go into this here. Your coach will be aware of what's happening and will probably talk to you about it at some point. What you can do, if you wish, is discuss this with your coach. Don't worry about talking to your coach about concerns such as these,  as all discussions are confidential.
