Welcome to the National Cadet League (NCL), formed especially for young table tennis players who wish to compete away from their normal environment with a minimum amount of travel. The NJL is aimed at players having a standard between the junior leagues and the Junior British League.
LEAGUE MANAGEMENT
• The NCL will be run by the NCL Committee which is empowered to determine the
conduct of the competition, resolve any disputes arising and implement any measures
as it deems reasonable. Decisions of the Committee shall be final
• The term junior shall mean players participating shall be under 15 years of age on the 1st January 2007
• Each day at each centre will be managed by an Organiser appointed by the
Committee. Terms of reference for the Organiser will be issued
PROGRAMME OF PLAY
• This is based on a six team division playing on one or two tables with each team playing every other team on each of the four match days. Variations are possible depending on the number of teams, the standard of the players and number of tables. The day starts with a meeting of team captains with the Organiser appointed for the centre. This will resolve any local problems. A schedule of play will be provided..
LAWS, REGULATIONS, PLAYING CONDITIONS AND DRESS
• The Laws of Table Tennis as approved by the ETTA will apply
• The playing area and lighting shall not be less than required for a 2* open tournament
• Team clothing shall be of a recognisable table tennis type and of a colour other than white. Playing footwear shall be of a type that will not mark or damage the floor. ITTF clothing regulation 3.2.2.9 (clothing) will not apply
• Notwithstanding the above the Organiser on the day in conjunction with team captains has the authority to change and accept differing conditions and standards
• Regulation R will be fully enforced at all times during the competition. Glueing up will only be allowed in a designated area (if any)
• Time-outs are not permitted in the NCL
PLAYING FORMAT
• Each team shall consist of three players
• Each match shall consist of six singles matches, each the best of five games. This may be altered to nine singles matches as determined by the referee and agreed by the team captains
TEAM RANKING
• Clubs who have more than one team in the same division must register players separately
• For identification, clubs who have more than one team must define each by name, number or letter
REGISTRATION AND TRANSFER
• A team may only be represented by players who have registered and whose forms have been received by the NCL Referee
• Players will be registered for their team in club/league ranking order and will play in that order. On registering further players, this ranking order is to be revised. Players playing up
to a higher team twice will become registered for that team in which they have played their second match
• Clubs may register three players and further as required. With five or more team matches per day it may be prudent to register more for the first weekend. Players who have played
in the Junior British League (JBL) this season are not eligible to play in the NCL
• A Player Licence is required to play in the NCL
RANKING POINTS
• The NCL carries ranking points to the weighting of 1.0 for all divisions
MEDALS
• Players of teams coming first and second in their respective divisions will be presented with ETTA medals on the final day to a total of 5 medals per team
CONSTITUTION OF DIVISIONS
• Ideally the league will consist of divisions of 6 teams. This may be altered by the Referee dependent on the number of teams requesting to play at any centre. There shall be separate divisions for boys and girls. Where the entry is not sufficient, then mixed team and divisions are possible with the agreement of the teams
SYSTEM OF PLAY
• The league shall be played over four Saturdays unless authorised by the Referee. If the teams in a division agree a change of date then all teams must accept any extra charges arising
LEAGUE POSITIONS
• A point will be awarded for each match won within the team match.
Positions in the division will be determined:
1. by the number of points won
2. if two teams are equal on points, then their relative positions shall be determined by
a) the results between the two teams
b) if two teams are equal on points and the matches between them resulted in draws or if more than two teams are equal on points then their relative positions shall be determined
1) by their ratios of wins to losses in the team matches
2) by their ratios of wins to losses in individual matches
3) by their ratios of wins to losses in points
as far as is necessary to resolve the order, taking into account only matches between the teams concerned
PROMOTION AND RELEGATION
• At the end of the season the highest teams in the highest numbered divisions will be deemed to be the NCL champions
• Where applicable at the end of the season the highest team in any second division shall be promoted
• The NCL Committee reserves the right to be satisfied that team players meet the required standard of the particular division in which the teams compete (albeit promotion in the previous season may have been achieved)
• The NCL Committee reserves the right to fill any divisional vacancies caused by withdrawal of teams and to determine the size of each division dependent on entry
